And the best part? It’s surprisingly easy to make! So grab some apples and get ready to wow your friends and family with this delicious homemade dessert.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling

  1. First, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). While it’s heating up, grab a large bowl and start whisking together the flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the butter with a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture looks like a bunch of tiny crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together into a ball. Then, divide the dough in half and flatten each half into a disc. Wrap each disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Meanwhile, grab a bunch of apples and slice them up into thin pieces. Toss them in a large bowl with some lemon juice to keep them from browning.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add the sugar mixture to the apples and toss until well coated.
  5. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the dough to the dish and trim the edges. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with the 2 tablespoons of butter.
  6. Roll out the second disc of dough on a floured surface and cut into strips. Arrange the strips in a lattice pattern on top of the apples.
  7. Brush the lattice and edges of the crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar. This will give it a nice crispy texture and a little extra sweetness!
  8. Finally, bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust is browning too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
  9. Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving. But trust me, it’ll be worth the wait!

Enjoy this delicious apple pie recipe, and don’t forget to share it with your friends and family!
