Churros

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

 

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Bring to a boil and remove from the heat.

  2. Add the flour to the saucepan and stir until the mixture forms a ball of dough.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep saucepan over medium-high heat.

  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

  5. Once the oil is hot, pipe the dough into the oil, cutting the dough off at around 4 inches long with a knife or scissors. Fry until golden brown and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

  6. In a shallow dish, mix together the remaining sugar and cinnamon.

  7. Roll the churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.

  8. In a separate saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  9. Add the chocolate chips to the saucepan and whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

  10. Serve the churros with the warm chocolate sauce for dipping.
